35 thousand visitors filled the Autódromo do Estoril

2022 Estoril Classics came to an end this Sunday (October 9th) after three days in which more than 35 thousand people filled the Estoril circuit to watch iconic races with more than 300 cars.

In the 6th edition of the event, all tickets to the paddock were sold out and the free grandstand had one of the highest attendance ever.

The Formula 1 race that goes back to the time when the Estoril racetrack used to host the top category of motorsport was the most anticipated race of the event and the fans' expectations were not disappointed. Nick Padmore, in a Lotus 87B Ford Cosworth DFV, won both races after starting from pole position. Martin O'Connell in the Williams FW07C Ford Cosworth DFV, who lined up seventeenth on the grid, was second and Steve Brooks' Lotus 91 closed out the podium despite a gearbox problem.

Diogo Ferrão, CEO of Race Ready and Estoril Classics promoter, said that it was "notorious the satisfaction of the drivers, both in terms of the track and the public support. The vast majority were enthusiastic about returning next year, which leaves us with enormous expectations about the possibility of having even more cars in 2023."

Duarte Nobre Guedes, the event's mentor, highlighted the atmosphere experienced during the three days of Estoril Classics: "Cascais was once again the stage of an event that brought speed lovers to the Estoril circuit. At Estoril Classics, the car is the star and that will always be an added value to motorsports. The hospitality with which the participants were received translates into the interest shown by the gentleman drivers in returning to Cascais to discover what this destination has to offer and also to participate in the next edition of Estoril Classics. In the year that the circuit celebrates 50 years since its inauguration, it was a great satisfaction to see the main grandstand of the Autódromo do Estoril packed once again."
